Anderson Basketball: How The Trojans Can Make the Playoffs

As the Trojan’s regular season comes to a close, their last few games will decide whether they make it into the postseason. Currently, Anderson sits in sixth place in their nine-team district.

6A Region IV District 26 Basketball Standings

Johnson Jaguars (26-3, 12-1)

Lake Travis Cavaliers (22-6, 9-2)

Westlake Chaparrals (26-5, 10-3)

Dripping Springs Tigers (16-12, 7-6)

Bowie Bulldogs (15-10, 5-6)

Anderson Trojans (11-17, 5-7)

Austin Maroons (12-14, 3-9)

Del Valle Cardinals (7-16, 2-10)

Akins Eagles (12-16, 2-11)

In order to make the playoffs, the Trojans must finish as one of the top four teams in their district. With only four games left in the season, the top three spots are effectively out of reach for Anderson. However, the fourth spot is out for the taking. Dripping Springs currently holds this spot, but Anderson or Bowie could easily take it. Luckily for Anderson, they play both Bowie and Dripping Springs to finish off the season. To have a realistic chance at making the playoffs, Anderson will have to win out. While it would still be possible to make the playoffs with one more loss, it would be improbable, especially if those losses come to Bowie or Drip.

On the other hand, if the Trojans beat Del Valle, Drip, Austin High, and Bowie, they will be in a much better situation, ending the season with a 9-7 district record. This could punch their ticket to the playoffs or put them in a two or three-way tie. However, Anderson should like their chances if they win out, as Dripping Springs has to play Lake Travis on the road, and Bowie has to play Westlake twice and play Lake Travis on the road.

In the event that a tie occurs, a tie-breaking game or tournament will be played. For example, if Anderson and Dripping Springs finish 9-7, they will play one more game to determine who moves on to the playoffs. On the other hand, if Anderson, Dripping Springs, and Bowie finish all finish 9-7, a tournament will be played to decide who the representative in the playoffs will be.

The good news for Anderson is that they control their destiny and have the most favorable schedule of all teams competing for the fourth playoff slot. The Trojans’ race to the postseason starts in less than an hour as they play a must-win game.
