Anderson Basketball: Weekly Preview (1/30-2/5)

This week will be a relatively quiet week for the Trojan team. They were scheduled to play an away game tonight against Del Valle, but due to the winter storm, it has been postponed, and the new game date is TBD. However, regardless of when the game is played, it will still be a massive game for Anderson’s playoff hopes.

Del Valle will come into this game tied for 7th place in the district standings with a 7-15 overall record and a 2-9 district record. The only wins they have in district play come against last-place team Akins. In Anderson’s last matchup against Del Valle, the Trojans barely squeaked out a 61-59 win. The game was so close due to Del Valle guard Damareon Williams scoring 23 points. This is not uncommon for him, as he averages just under 20 points per game, and the Trojans will need to focus on shutting him down to keep this game out of the Cardinal’s reach. Anderson will also need to limit Del Valles’s supporting cast, as the last time they played, they allowed Freddie Thomas and Christopher Wilson to score almost ten more points than they average per game. If Anderson can play defense as they played against Lake Travis, they should be able to win this game comfortably.
