Trojans Persevere Through AISD Invitational

It was a fantastic final stretch for the Trojans on a hot and sunny morning at Walter Long Park on Decker Lake.

Huntress’ time of 15:28.7 was just a second off his personal best set two weeks ago at the Westlake Meet.

Andrew Saeger was the second Trojan across the line, followed by freshman AJ Marron-Rodriguez, who completed his first 5k in a time of 18:02.40. Manny Garduno ran a season-best 18:06.50. Rounding out the scoring was Eli Peng, who set another personal best in 18:51.10. Luke Mathis (19:33.80) set another personal best, while Christopher Lee (20:29.50) lowered his season best for 5k.

The Varsity Boys team placed sixth out of 27 teams.

Overall, the Girls Varsity finished and incredible third over 23 teams, behind only 6A squads, Bowie and Lake Travis. The top-5 scoring girls all finished in the top-35.

Leading the way was junior Elizabeth Tucker in a team season-best 20:38.9, just missing her own personal best by a mere 0.3 seconds. Ashley Marron-Rodriguez broke her own personal best, running a phenomenal 21:04.80, 33 seconds faster than she ran on the same course last year at the district meet. Caroline Talarcek (21:31.50) and Emily Scholtz (21:44.70) followed closely behind. Rounding out the scoring was Bojana Rutkouszky, whose 21:49.50 was a season-best over 5k for her. Lucy Flynn was just outside of the scoring but set a season-best 22:48.70.

The Girls Junior Varsity team was seventh of 18 teams, while the Boys Junior Varsity finished tenth of 17 teams.

Junior Emerson Jones led the Junior Varsity girls with a time of 25:18.60, over a minute and a half better than her personal best.

Leading Boys Junior Varsity was sophomore Tobin Stemple. Behind him were junior John Hubik and senior Schaefer Russell, who each had a personal best race. Stemple stepped up in his first 5k of the year, running a personal best 21:16.80, trimming 40 seconds off his best a year ago. Hubik came in at 22:32.80, dropping 26 seconds on his PB. Russell shaved almost three full minutes off his best time, finishing in 23:35.00.

The Trojans continue their season this Thursday at the Salado Tenroc Invitational.
