The Anderson Trojan Track and Field squad competed at the Belinda Denman Invitational in Waco on Friday, and Faith Murphy broke a school record for the second week in a row. Murphy, a senior who has signed to run at Arkansas next year, took another second off the school record she set last week in the 1600-meter run. Murphy won in a time of 5:03.85. She also won the 800-meter run (2:12.50) and finished second in the 400-meter run (57.49).
Another double winner Friday was Colby Huntress who won the 800-meter (1:55.90) and 1600-meter (4:27.35) races.
Zayden Sharp continued his amazing season in the long jump, winning the event on his first jump (24-7.5). Sharp erased all doubts about his school record jump last week and now holds two of the top-5 jumps in the state so far this season. Sharp also placed third in the 100-meter dash in 10.95.
Caroline Talarcek placed third in the 3200-meter run (12:35.37) and second in the 1600-meter run (5:36.61). She also placed seventh in the 800-meter run (2:34.90).
On the Junior Varsity side, junior Ashley Marron-Rodriguez led a 1-2-3 sweep of the girl’s 1600-meter run for the Trojans. Marron-Rodriguez set a new personal best, winning in a time of 6:08.66. She was followed to the podium by sophomores Lucie Flynn (6:13.67) and Ariana Cruz (6:15.98). Cruz was also second in the 800-meter run (2:48.65).
Marron-Rodriguez and Flynn also went 1-2 in the 3200-meter run. Both set personal bests in the race, Marron-Rodriguez winning in 13:07.97 and Flynn finishing in 13:14.42.
Other notables include Quentin Stoegner, who set a huge personal best in the Discus with a throw of 103-8. A pair of freshmen stood out at the high jump. Emma Vincent was second with a jump of 4-8, while Clara Gustafson was fifth at the same height.
Another freshman, Naliyah Anderson, finished fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.62.
The JV Girls 4×200-meter relay was second in a time of 1:50.84, while the JV 4×4 finished fourth in 4:43.03.
The Trojans will take to the track on Thursday at the AISD Invitational being held at the Burger Center.
