Trojan Track at the Texas Relays

The 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays have already been in full swing for the past two days, with professional, collegiate, and high school athletes all taking to the track to run their separate events. Today, elite athletes from Anderson’s track team will have the opportunity to compete against the best Texas has to offer. This article will discuss which Trojans will be stepping foot on the track, what events they will be running, and when Trojan fans off from school can watch them compete.

Zayden Sharp: Long Jump and 100 Meter Dash

Zayden is the Anderson record holder in both of these events, setting the 100-meter school record last year with a blazing 10.72 and the long jump school record this year with a jump of 23 feet. Having the opportunity to run and jump against the best Texas has to offer will be the perfect opportunity for Zayden to lower his already impressive school records.

Zayden Sharp, Jesse Lang, Ben Hatcher, Zahi Kazzi-Loyde: 4×100 Meter Relay

Due to conflicting sports seasons and injury, Anderson has not always had its best 4×100 team on the track. This will not be the case for Texas Relays, as the Trojans will be putting out a completely different team than the one who ran a season’s best of 44.18 this year. Not only will the Trojans be gunning to place high in the meet, but they will also be eyeing the Trojan record of 42.74, which was set back in 2022 by Brandon Canaday, Ed Small, Colin Page, and Zayden Sharp. With good handoffs and a fast finish by Zayden, who will likely be the anchor, this 4×100-meter team could etch themselves in the Anderson record book.

Leo Spitzer: 1600 Meter

Yet another school record holder, Leo Spitzer, who holds both the 800-meter and 1600-meter Anderson records, will take the track today. He just recently lowered his school record of 4:16.39 by another half-second, running 4:15.81 at the Texas Distance Festival a couple of weeks ago. With a stacked field in this mile race, Leo is in a perfect position for a massive PR, which would be a great confidence boost going into districts.

Leo Spitzer, Colby Huntress, Jesse Lang, Liam Jobe: 4×400 Meter Relay

The Trojans will also be running in the 4×400 relay at Texas Relays. This relay team has not varied as much as the 4×100 team, with Jesse Lang being the only new addition. Jesse, who will replace an injured Jesus Soto, ran in the 50s last year and will be a great addition to the team. With a good performance, the Trojans should be able to break their 4×400 season’s best of 3:31.95 and hopefully go under the 3:30 mark.
