BREAKING: Texas UIL Realignment Set, Trojans to 5A-12 for Football

We’ve known for months that Anderson was moving back down to 5A, but this morning Texas UIL announced the district realignment for 2024-2026. The Trojans have been placed in 5A District 12 against the likes of Cedar Creek, Hays, College Station, A&M Consolidated, Lehman, Lockhart, Hendrickson, and Weiss.

This district features some formidable competition, mainly in Weiss and A&M Consolidated, but it should still be a nice sigh of relief for the Trojans after a pair of years against some of the best 6A teams in the state. The biggest challenge for Anderson will be the amount of travel the team will have to do for away games. Every high school in the district is at least 20 minutes to an hour away from Anderson, and trips to College Station are almost two hours each way.

Other sports at Anderson won’t face the same travel struggle as the state splits up football into 5A D1 and 5A D2 meaning districts for all other sports are different. For Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, and the works, the Trojans will compete in District 24 against Ann Richards (girl’s sports only), Crockett, LASA, McCallum, Navarro, Bastrop, and Cedar Creek. It’s unfortunate to see Anderson lose a rivalry game against Austin High, but every sport will play McCallum next year which never gets old.

At the end of the day, the Trojans belong in 5A. They were one of the smallest 6A schools in the state over the last two seasons, and the move back down to 5A will increase the competitiveness for many sports. At the very least, fans should expect Anderson to bring in a few district championships during this realignment. Exciting times are ahead for the Trojans, so stay tuned for that and news surrounding spring sports by keeping up with GoTrojansGo!
