Austin to Amherst: Trojan Quarterback Brady Gephart Makes College Decision

After lettering for 3 years on Anderson’s varsity football team, star quarterback Brady Gephart will trade in the blue and gold for purple and white when he arrives on campus next fall. He’ll of course be playing for Amherst College, a prestigious liberal arts college in Massachusetts. The Mammoths compete in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) at the Division III level and finished 4-5 last year.

Gephart is coming off an outstanding senior campaign where he threw for 2100 yards, 27 touchdowns, and only 5 interceptions in his first year as the starting quarterback. He also gained over 350 yards and a touchdown on the ground as he was forced to scramble often due to the pocket constantly breaking down.

Gephart wasn’t just a quarterback though, he also spent time at receiver in the 2 seasons before he was named starting quarterback, catching 3 touchdowns his junior year. He’s shown an ability to be an athlete and find his way onto the field any way possible which will be huge for him as an underclassman at Amherst.

Gephart was named second-team quarterback this year despite leading the district in passing yards and passing touchdowns by a wide margin. His impact was greatened by the lack of a prominent rushing attack, leading to Brady and his receiving corps carrying the offense. After the season, he was rightfully named offensive MVP for the Trojans.

Coach Hatcher told me he’s “so proud of Brady” and that the quarterback is a “tremendous talent”. This is high praise for one of the best Anderson football players in recent memory. Despite being undersized for a QB and underrecruited, Gephart found a home that was right for him. Hatcher is “so glad someone took a shot on him” and believes “he will do great for [Amherst]”.

Brady’s always been an underdog and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. Amherst, Massachusetts is a long way from home and New England is a lot different than Texas, but rest assured he’ll forge his own path there.

He’s a competitor, and that’s what competitors do.
