Midnight Madness is a yearly tradition in which the Anderson football team starts their season. There are food, festivities, and performances leading up to midnight when the season’s first snap is taken. This year, Anderson football fans enjoyed a taco truck and Kona Ice while meeting players and watching the Anderson Belles, cheer team, and band perform.
As the clock ticked down to midnight, the Anderson football team huddled around as everyone at Calhoon Field started counting down the seconds until midnight. August 5th started with the Oklahoma drill, and the Anderson team finally got to play in pads after a whole summer of conditioning. Running backs rushed at defenders, eager to hit the other and put them in the dirt. After a few minutes of the Oklahoma drill, the Trojans transitioned into some 11v11 offense vs. defense. Quarterbacks Brady Gephart and Max Gerlich both led drives and gave Anderson fans a glimpse of the two Qbs leading them into the 2023 season. Highlights included a touchdown connection between Brady and star receiver Ed Small and some big hits from a stout-looking Anderson defense.
Midnight Madness gave us our first look at the Trojan football team, who now will have a few weeks to prepare for the Taco Shack Bowl against their rivals, the McCallum Knights. This will be a massive game for Anderson, as a win would be an excellent tone-setter for 2nd-year head coach Donald Hatcher and his team.
