The Boys’ Soccer team finished up their first season in district 26-6A last night as they fell to Bowie 3-1. An up-and-down season provided many challenges but also a lot of hope for the Trojans. Anderson finished 4-8-4 in district play and 5-9-6 overall. This was good enough for a 6th place finish in the district standings when all was said and done.
The Trojans started district play 3-1-0 and they were riding high after reeling off four straight victories including a 3-0 victory over Westlake on January 24th. After that stretch, the games were tougher and Anderson finished the season going just 1-7-4, but the record doesn’t tell the whole story. Three of those losses down the stretch were to a pair of teams that lost just one game each in the district this season. Bowie and Lake Travis both finished 14-1-1 in a tie for first place in the district.
Actually, Lake Travis’ only tie was late in the season to the Trojans. Anderson played them impressively to a 2-2 draw with junior Jud Anderson netting both goals. This wasn’t the only time that the Trojans looked competitive late in the season; many losses were by just 1 or 2 goals.
The aforementioned Jud Anderson was a bright spot for the Trojans this year, and he is all but likely going to be an All-District first-team selection. He’s presumably also in the running for District player of the year after a season that saw him find the back of the net 17 times. Anderson finished with 41 total points and was a dominant force on the pitch each and every game. Freshman Trevor Rener added 7 goals over the course of the season as well, and with 3 more years ahead of him, he’ll have plenty of room to grow into a starring role. Especially after Jud graduates in 2024.
It’s difficult to move up a level of competition, but the Trojans took that challenge in stride. Despite finishing with a sub-.500 record, this was a successful season for the Trojans, and they can certainly build on it going into next year. The program is graduating seven seniors, but returning the bulk of their scoring in Jud and Rener. They also will get back sophomore Luke Reuter and junior Kyler Bresler who scored 2 goals a piece. They’ll also likely have some talent moving up from the sub-varsity level as JVA had an impressive season going 7-3-5 in district play and 8-4-5 overall.
A long offseason awaits now as the Trojans don’t resume play until December, but rest assured we’ll have plenty of updates for you before that time. Keep up with us on the website, and give GoTrojansGo a follow on Twitter and Instagram for the most up-to-date news surrounding Anderson sports.
