Anderson Girls’ Lacrosse: Perfect Start

7-0-0. What a start for Anderson Girls’ Lacrosse in their first season in Division 1. The Trojans’ perfect start has them ranked 3rd in the state of Texas by LaxNumbers behind Hockaday and Kinkaid.

After a 2-0 road trip to Dallas, the team returned to Austin for a matchup with St. Stephen’s Episcopal. The Trojans dominated St. Stephen’s en route to a 20-0 shutout victory. Senior Annie Small tallied 5 goals, and juniors Chloe Page and Harper Jones added 4 each. Goalie Emma Bethke kept the Spartans off the board with help from the formidable Anderson defense.

The first home game of the season followed against Southlake Carroll on 2/25, and once again, the Trojans won handily. They picked up a 17-1 victory over Southlake with another 4 goals each from Page and Jones, while Small and freshman Jillian Murphy found the back of the net 3 times.

Off the back of the 4-0 start, Anderson found themselves in a tough stretch where they’d play 3 games in 6 days. First was another Dallas road trip for the Trojans as they faced off against The Episcopal School of Dallas and Greenhill before returning for a home game against Lake Travis.

ESD proved themselves to be a tough draw for the Trojans as the teams were knotted 4-4 at the half. The Trojans pulled ahead in the second to earn a narrow 12-10 victory. Harper Jones continued her scoring streak with a third straight 4-goal game and Small added 3 of her own.

The Greenhill game was back to the usual for Anderson. The Trojans steamrolled the Hornets 20-2 behind another 6 goals from Jones and 8 from Chloe Page. Junior captain Audrey Thompson added another 3 scores for Anderson. The win over Greenhill completed another successful road trip for the Trojans, and they returned from Dallas 6-0-0.

It was more of the same for Anderson against Lake Travis, and the Trojans blew out the Cavaliers 17-2. Harper Jones led the Trojans once again with another 6 goals, while Small and fellow senior Veena Patel netted 3. Sophomore Laney Owens tallied 3 assists and a goal of her own, and Jillian Murphy had a pair of goals as well.

That win brought the Trojans to 7-0-0 ahead of their 2-week break that ends this Thursday, March 23. Anderson will face off against a Westlake team that went to the D1 state championship last year (more on that in my article tomorrow). The Trojans have had an unbelievable start to the season, and they’ll look to continue it against the Chaparrals.
