Welcome back Trojan fans to our 2024-25 GoTrojansGo content! We’re excited to bring you all another year of wonderful sports writing and media starting with the beginning of the Anderson Football season. Here we’ll recap the Trojans’ summer and begin looking towards the season ahead.
7on7: After beating Westwood, Round Rock, and Dripping Springs at the Westlake SQT, the Trojans qualified for the state tournament in College Station for the first time since 2022. In pool play for the state tournament, Anderson went 2-1 and qualified for the championship bracket the following day. The Trojans then went on an unprecedented run beating College Park, Cy Falls, The Woodlands, and Colleyville to advance to the championship against DeSoto where they fell just short of winning their first state championship. Nevertheless, their run was sensational, and truly the Cinderella story of the tournament, drawing the eyes of viewers from all over Texas and putting Anderson on the map for this upcoming season.
New District: The Trojans will no longer be facing the likes of football powerhouses Westlake and Lake Travis in sports for the next two years, instead they will transition into 5A District 12 which will feature Bastrop, Buda Hays, College Station, A&M Consolidated, Kyle Lehman, Lockhart, Hendrickson, and Weiss. Anderson looks to compete fiercely for a playoff spot after moving down from 6A, and the Trojans expect to face challenges in College Station, A&M Consolidated, and Weiss for a potential run at the district championship this fall.
Returning Stars: After graduating a huge senior class following the 2022 season, Coach Hatcher inserted many new faces into the starting lineup last season, many of them in the classes of 2025 and 2026. This means that the Trojans will be a vastly more experienced group this fall as they will start upperclassmen at many key positions. Some of the most anticipated returners are receiver and TCU commit Ed Small, QB, and UTSA commit Max Gerlich, hybrid safety Liam McMillan, cornerback Colin Haines, and linebacker Gage Webb. These 5 along with other familiar faces and newcomers alike will be counted on to lead the Trojans to what could be one of their most successful seasons in years.
Taco Shack: Per usual, the Trojans will start their season with the annual Taco Shack Bowl, a rivalry contest against the McCallum Knights. This year, the game will take place on Thursday, August 29th at House Park and will feature an exciting matchup between two improved teams. While the Trojans are led by Gerlich, the Knights are led by senior quarterback Luke Dunham and are coming off a season in which they finished second in their district en route to a playoff appearance. After dominating the last two matchups, the Trojans will look to continue their winning streak in this year’s edition of the bowl.
With a great summer in the rearview mirror, the season is now just a few exits up the highway, so make sure you keep up with GoTrojansGo for all the latest news surrounding the team.
