Every year, Anderson High School hosts the Anderson Classic, where talented teams from all over Texas face off. It is a good early-season test to see where your program and culture are at. The tournament divides teams into four pools, A-D, with three teams each. Here is what the pools look like this year:
Pool A Pool B Pool C Pool D
Anderson Cy Falls Westlake Rockwall
St. Michaels Medina Valley SA Holmes Kingwood
Elsik FB Austin FB Travis Dakota Ridge
Every team plays the other two teams in their pool. Once pool play is finished, teams are split into Gold, Silver, and Bronze divisions. Winning your pool puts you in Gold, getting second puts you in Silver, and losing your pool places you in Bronze. In each division, the representatives from Pool A and Pool B play, and the representatives from Pool C and Pool D play. The two losers from these games play in a third-place match, and the winners play in the championship.
Anderon played both of their pool games yesterday. They played St. Michaels in the tournament’s first game and finished the day with a matchup against Elsik. The Trojans suffered a 34-63 loss against St. Michaels and, despite a second-half push, fell to Elsik 42-27. On Friday, the Trojans will face off against the third-place finisher in Medina Valley at 1:00 P.M. If they can pull off a win in that game, they will play in the Bronze Division championship against the winner of the Pool C vs. Pool D game.
