Lacrosse is more than just a sport to many. It’s a passion that ignites the spirit and binds friends, mentors, and players into a tight-knit community. For Olivia, the journey from picking up a lacrosse stick in 4th grade to committing to play for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a testament to her dedication and love for the game.
It all started in the 4th grade, with the girl’s program starting in Northwest Hills. However, it wasn’t until 6th grade that Olivia took her commitment to the sport to the next level, with the start of club play for Iron Horse. She knew from that moment, her passion for lacrosse was set in stone, creating a lifelong connection to the game.
Selecting a college to continue the lacrosse journey is no small feat. For Andrus, UNC Charlotte stood out as the perfect match. During the visit, the allure of the program’s coaches, camaraderie among players, and a thriving community culture left an indelible mark. The picturesque campus was the cherry on top, alongside robust academics and an athletics program known for its strength.

The excitement for playing in college is unmatched. Olivia is enthusiastic about contributing to UNC Charlotte’s new program, with the inaugural season set for 2024. Playing in the second official year offers a unique opportunity for her to help lay the foundation for success. The prospect of continuing to play lacrosse while surrounded by exceptional individuals is the driving force.
Andrus is of the utmost thankful for her support system through this process. She is ever so grateful for her parents, and their unwavering commitment and endless encouragement paved the way for her lacrosse journey. Another significant figure in this journey is Coach Ross, a mentor and coach who provided guidance, support, and influential help in navigating the college selection process. Their role in making the dream of playing for UNC Charlotte a reality is undeniable.
The upcoming season for our Lady Trojans holds much anticipation. The goal is not only to play with their incredible team but to bring home a state championship. The camaraderie within the team promises an exciting season filled with growth as players and teammates. We cannot wait to see what is in store for Olivia this season!
