We are just under two months into the school year, and Trojan baseball already has its first commitment in the books. On Sunday, Drew Mierl posted on his Instagram, “Excited to announce my commitment to Rock Valley College! Thank you to my coaches, family, and friends for your support.” Rock Valley is a Division II junior college located in Rockford, Illinois. Mierl became a Golden Eagle “because of the culture in their baseball program and coaching staff.” He also mentioned that he walked onto campus and could see himself at home there for the next few years.
At age five, Mierl began his baseball career at Northwest Little League. He started in tee ball and stayed at NW for seven years, through his 12U season. Drew has always known he wanted to be on a college team, so he started playing select and has been with both the Austin Horns and Austin Wings (he currently plays for the Wings). “I’ve wanted to play baseball as long as I could, so playing in college was definitely a big goal of mine,” Mierl added. Helping him achieve this goal was his dad, who encouraged Drew from the time he was in tee ball and has helped him improve in every aspect of the sport over the years.
Although he’s committed, Mierl’s time as a Trojan is by no means over. He will continue to hit, pitch, and field for Anderson before focusing solely on pitching in college. “[I’m] looking forward to finishing out my senior year as a Trojan with my teammates,” he said.
