Anderson Baseball: Trojans Out of Playoffs (But Could They Still Make It?)

Baseball playoffs are approaching, and they seem to be far out of reach for the Trojans. In order to make the tournament, the team must rank within the top four in the district to earn their spot. Currently, Anderson is sitting in fifth place with a 5-7 district record. Ahead of them are Johnson in fourth (10-3), Bowie in third (10-3), Lake Travis in second (11-2), and Westlake in the top spot (12-2). Even if they won the remaining three games, the Trojans would be unable to secure that fourth-place ranking that punches a ticket to playoffs. So how is there a possibility Anderson could still go?

In 2018, Temple Junior College thought their season was over. They had finished third in the region which disqualified them from the playoffs. However, there was a major scuffle during the regional final between McClennan Community College and Cisco College that resulted in a game delay. After a ruling, the officials declared both teams were disqualified as a result of the quarrel. This disqualification gave Temple the opportunity to represent Region V at the JUCO World Series, something no one expected would happen.

Despite Anderson’s playoff chances being slim, there is still a minute possibility they could make it, similar to the situation for Temple College. If something results in a top-four team getting cut before playoffs, Anderson will fill in to take their place. Regardless of what happens, the team is “going about this week business as usual,” Coach Matthews explained. “We preach to the boys that how we do things on a daily basis reveals who we really are. Nothing has changed for us.”

Although the coaches are treating this week like any other, you never know what might happen, and a playoff opportunity could come out of left field for Anderson Baseball.
