While the scheduling may not have gone as planned, it was still a very successful weekend for Anderson Girls’ Lacrosse. The team was initially set to play Dakota Ridge and Denver East, but due to unforeseen circumstances, they ended up scrimmaging Castle View on Friday instead of Dakota Ridge.
Castle View hosted a joint practice for the two teams where the girls had a chance to be instructed by both coaches, before mixing up the teams for a scrimmage at the end. This may not have been the game the Trojans expected, but it was certainly a good experience for everyone involved.
After the joint practice and scrimmage vs Castle View, the Trojans took on the Angels of East Denver. The Trojans gave up 2 early goals, before tying up the scoring and building a 10-4 lead by halftime. After the half, it was smooth sailing for Anderson as they outscored East Denver 5-2 and completed a 15-6 victory over the Angels.
Five goals from Harper Jones, and hat tricks from Annie Small and Chloe Page put the Trojans over the top despite an unbelievable performance from Denver East’s goalie. She saved 13 of 28 shots on goal which is very solid in comparison to the other goalies Anderson has faced so far this season. Laney Owens had an assist hatty and Veena Patel added 4 points as well.
Both Emma Bethke and Sarah McKallip saw time in net against the Angels, with Bethke making one save on 5 DEHS shots and McKallip saving 2 of 6 shots she saw. Overall, the game was a successful one for Anderson as they earned another defeat to improve to 10-0-0 on the season.
The Trojans finished up the trip with a visit to Denver University to see their women’s lacrosse team play the Villanova Wildcats. The #4 ranked Pioneers handled Villanova 17-4 in their Big East opener. Anderson itself is back in action tonight for Senior Night against Vandegrift so show up to Calhoun Field and support the Trojans.
