Yesterday the Trojan track team competed in the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The Texas Relays is one of the country’s most prominent high school track meets and offers stiff competition. Anderson ran in two events, with Leo Spitzer running the Boys’ 1600 meters and David Hansen, Riley Fuller, Leo Spitzer, and Jesse Lang competing in the Boys’ 4×400 meter relay.
Leo was one of twenty-five people who qualified for the mile and performed very well, placing 12th and running a time of 4:16.39. This is almost a one-second personal record for Leo which is very impressive, considering the brutal 90-degree Texas heat he was running in. It is also a school record, improving on his previous record of 4:17.12, which he ran almost a month ago. This consistent success is an excellent sign for Leo and should give him the momentum he needs to continue breaking records.
The Trojans were one of the 88 teams who ran in the Boys’ Division II 4×400 meters. They came in with a season’s best of 3:32 and looked to go under the 3:30 mark. David Hansen ran first, clocking in a 52.02 split. This was followed by 52.69 from Riley Fuller and 51.87 from Leo Spitzer. Jesse Lang brought Anderson home, running a blazing 50.23 split. The Trojans finished with an official time of 3:27.12, which destroyed Anderson’s previous season’s best. This performance should be a great boost for the Trojans 4×4 team, as they will try to make it out of a tough district in just a few weeks.
