Anderson Varsity Baseball: Another Tournament Weekend

Trojan baseball faced off against challenging opponents in yet another tournament this past Thursday-Saturday. Varsity ended up with a 3-2 record, playing schools such as Pflugerville and Round Rock.

Thursday was a mixed bag for the Trojans, starting with a win over Pflugerville (6-2). They played well, with Rylan Unnasch scoring the first run. Leading the team in hits, Karsten Fidler went 2-for-4 at the plate. He and Andrew Mason, both scored two runs each, the most on the team. In the following game, the Trojans lost to Round Rock, their second opponent, 9-0.

On Friday, the Trojans went 1-1 again versus Hendrickson (5-7) and Taft (10-0). During the fourth inning against Hendrickson, the Trojans gained leverage, putting four runs on the board; Seth Crowley and Karsten Fidler both had RBIs during this inning. The Trojans threw three pitchers throughout the game: Rylan Unnasch, William Hotz, and Max Birdsong. Despite their efforts, Anderson was unable to come back against Hendrickson. However, in their game against Taft, the Trojans dominated, with a 10-0 final score. Pitcher Connor Clifton did not give Taft many opportunities to score, allowing only one hit. The Trojans really pulled away in the third and fourth innings, where they scored 5 and 3 runs.

On the final day of the tournament, Anderson brought home another win. They were able to secure a solid 7-3 victory over the Temple Wildcats. Stephen Szygenda had a standout game, with 2 hits and 8 chances in the field. On the mound, Drew Mierl held off the Wildcats, striking out four batters and giving up two runs.

Overall, the Trojans went 3-2 this past weekend as they gain their footing going into this season. Bigger, better schools provide more of a challenge for Anderson, but the Trojans are working to improve, so they can hold their own against these new opponents. Baseball has another tournament this upcoming weekend, where they hope to come out on top.
