Senior Colby Huntress led all Anderson runners, finishing second as the Trojans travelled to Southeast Metro Park in Del Valle for the 2025 Westlake Invitational. Huntress completed the five-kilometer race in a personal best, 15:27.7 to finish just behind Griffin Hummel of Bowie.
Following Huntress was another senior, Andrew Saeger in 47th place, in a personal best 16:59.2. Saeger dropped an incredible 23 seconds off his previous personal best. Rounding out the scoring were senior Manny Garduno (18:20.60), sophomore Eli Peng (19:08.00 and a huge 50 second PR!) and junior Eduardo Juarez (19:34.90).
The boys’ team finished 17th out of 33 teams and 5th among class 5A teams.
On the girls’ side it was sophomore Caroline Talarcek leading the way in a time of 20:44.00. She was followed by junior Elizabeth Tucker (21:18.70), sophomore Emily Scholtz (21:28.10), senior Ashley Marron-Rodriguez (21:41.00) and senior Bojana Rutkouszky (22:00.40).
The girls’ team finished 15th out of 28 teams and 5th as well among class 5A squads.
Medaling in the Junior Varsity boys’ two-mile race was freshman AJ Marron-Rodriguez, who finished fifth with a time of 11:25.60. The top Junior Varsity girls’ finisher was 79th place for Emerson Jones in a time of 15:40.50.
All in all, it was a great start to the new season for the Trojans. Next week the team travels to Lockhart City Park for the 27th Annual Hippensteel Invitational.
