The Anderson Trojan Girl’s Cross Country Team had an incredible day last Thursday, sweeping both the Varsity and Junior Varsity divisions at the District 5A-24 Meet at Walter Long Park in Austin.
The Trojan Girls dominated the races, outscoring LASA 27 to 63 in the varsity race. The team has consistently improved all season. The squad was led by Faith Murphy, who ran another sub-20 effort to place second overall. Lucy Gibson, Emily Schultz, Bojana Rutkousky and Ashley Marron-Rodriguez all placed in the top-10, finishing 4th, 5th, 6th and 10th, respectively.
In the Girls Junior Varsity race, Ariana Cruz dominated the event by almost a minute, winning the title in 22:38. Camille Rackley was edged at the line but finished third. Lucy Flynn, Natalia Juarez and Valeria Hernandez finished in 4th, 5th and 6th place overall. The future is definitely bright for the girls team moving forward.
The boys varsity finished second behind LASA in the district race. It has been a tough season for the Trojan Boys, as the team has battled injuries and illness all year. The team was led by Colby Huntress in 4th, with Jett Murphy, Andrew Saeger and Manny Garduno all finishing in the top-10 in 5th, 7th and 8th, respectively. Sebastian Cruz rounded out the scoring, finishing in 14th.
The junior varsity boys also finished second at the district meet. Eli Peng, Nathan Hadavi and Sander Orman all had top-10 results, finishing in 3rd, 7th and 8th respectively. Peng ran a personal best 19:56 and has steadily improved over the season. Sander Orman, Tobin Stemple, Will White and John Hubik also all ran personal bests.
Next up for both the boys and girls teams will be the UIL 5A Region III Meet in Huntsville on October 22.
